GRAFTING BRUGES TO THE LAKE
On the eastern edge of Bruges, an area of market gardeners, more than 50 years old, is open to urbanization. It's one of the CUB's last large areas, 45 hectares near the ring road and at the heart of a vast wetland zone.
The creation of the ZAC meets urban structuring objectives for Bruges and the surrounding area.
Comprising commercial and tertiary activities, public facilities, housing and extensive public spaces, the ZAC aims to blend in with both the traditional fabric of Bruges and the natural environment of the lake.
The project involves thinking about density, typologies and flood risk: a drainage and polder system, 6 hectares of ponds structuring the district, planting and landscape enhancement.
SPECIFICATIONS
"Grafting Bruges to the lake", i.e. organizing urban growth between the city center and Bordeaux's urban lake, is a real challenge.
Strengthen the new tertiary center built on the lakefront, complementing it with housing, shops and services. On the other hand, avoid urban expansion at the expense of natural and agricultural areas on the northern periphery (Tasta nature reserve).
