Restoration on an occupied site, extension of a building, reuse of existing materials: the Musée du Jouet project in Poissy, entrusted to A26, synthesizes all the challenges and problems of restoration in the heart of listed sites.
The survival of the Musée du Jouet depended, on the one hand, on adapting its program to new needs, and, on the other hand, on meeting accessibility and safety standards. Project A26 consisted in creating an extension on the garden side, within the framework of a listed site and a listed building, to accommodate educational workshops. It was completed by restoring the facades and roof, replacing the exterior joinery and bringing the building up to accessibility and safety standards.
The structuring lines of the existing landscape were studied in order to better integrate the new building into the whole. The contemporary extension blends into the site, and is built using materials already on site.
The old chimneys were reused for air renewal, while two new ones were created in the extension to ensure interior comfort and improve the building's energy performance.
