Located on the site of a former service station, this teaching building is an "urban beacon".
Located close to the Beaulieu shopping center, the project is a mixed-use building: teaching on the R+3 level with shops on the first floor, then a basement level used as a parking lot.
The building can accommodate 878 people simultaneously and is a 2ᵉ category ERP.
The architectural approach was to create a singular building as an urban beacon, visible from most public thoroughfares.
Its gentle forms have no visible angles from the boulevard.
The first floor, largely glazed along the entire urban facade, is topped by a ribbon of sunbreakers that wrap around the building over 3 levels. The partly green roof accommodates the technical equipment, which is concealed by louvered screens. At the rear of the building, the first floor, treated as a protruding volume, is topped by a terrace accessible to students, the edge of which is equipped with planted planters. A cantilevered awning will protect two-wheelers parked directly above.
The facade envelope consists of a continuous mesh of ultra-high-performance fiber-reinforced concrete (UHPC) slats forming a sunshade. These deliberately irregular horizontal lines are Rudy Ricciotti's tribute to the painter Soulage.
