Ecological performance / economic performance: incompatible?

Long subject to the diktat of NIMBY*, logistics has acquired new credentials thanks to the Covid pandemic, which has demonstrated just how essential it is to society. Still recently at the center of the confrontation between the Ministry of Ecological Transition and the Ministry of the Economy, logistics real estate professionals have decided to demonstrate once again that, for them, there's no need to choose between ecological and economic performance, as long as a win-win situation can be found. With this in mind, at SITL they presented a charter of reciprocal commitment between the French government and 40 of Afilog's leading members. Thierry Griveaux, associate branch manager at A26 and Afilog board member, provides an update on this initiative.

Thierry Griveaux explains:

Covid reminded everyone that without logistics, it would be pointless to hope that a Zoom conference would be enough to feed, clothe and care for us during the various confinements. However, it is just as important to place environmental concerns at the heart of logistics real estate. That's the purpose of the reciprocal commitment charter we drew up with the French government to demonstrate our willingness to be environmentally proactive. In return, we wanted the government to commit to simplifying administrative procedures, improving access to brownfield sites and developing local, densified (multi-storey), multi-use, multi-level urban logistics for all logistics players.

The virtuous logic of this approach is not to give free rein to logistics but, on the contrary, to accelerate possible interventions on land - wasteland - that has already been developed for other uses. In this way, we can speed up projects that respond to the urgency imposed by the development of e-commerce and new consumption patterns. And the projects will be all the more acceptable to local residents if the industry undertakes to promote platforms that give pride of place to the treatment of green spaces, the development of biotopes and the systematic use of photovoltaics. Let's hope that this reciprocal commitment will save time, money and the art of living, without generating new visual nuisances!

CARBON-NEUTRAL PLATFORM

100,000 m², 45 million parcels delivered per year, 150 KT of CO2 neutralized, gas-fired boiler abandoned: the latest logistics platform delivered to Prologis in Moissy-Cramayel by the A26 agency inaugurates the standards of tomorrow's responsible warehouse. This carbon-neutral certification for both construction and operation is a world first, simultaneously meeting the development challenges of the Casino Group's quick commerce business and the social responsibility of Samada/Monoprix and Prologis.
