WE SIGN THE FIRST PROJECT IN HISTORY TO USE 100% RECYCLED CONCRETE

In Gennevilliers (92), a new 76-unit social housing complex is to be built using recycled concrete. A "world first", according to the A26 architectural firm, which initiated and managed the project.

At first glance, this may appear to be a classic demolition-rebuilding operation on behalf of the social landlord Seqens, but in reality it turns out that we have chosen to place the cursor between innovation, sustainable development and short circuits to design a showcase residence in terms of low-carbon construction.

A total of 11 types of industrial waste were recovered for the clinker; the water used came from cleaning water from the Gennevilliers concrete plant, and the rubble and sand came from demolition waste from old buildings.

We identified and then brought together all the know-how required to achieve this technical feat. In particular, we collaborated with the Lafarge Group to design this innovative concrete. In addition, Seqens and the project management team teamed up with Holcim to produce the building structure in 100% recycled concrete during the tender process.

A specific ATEx has also been filed with and obtained from the CSTB to guarantee the concrete's compatibility with various construction standards.

"We estimate that this initiative will save almost 3,000 tonnes of natural resources", says Elliot Laffite, Associate Managing Director of the agency. We are very proud of this unprecedented project, which demonstrates our ability to reconcile urban development with environmental performance.

Delivery of the residence is scheduled for the end of 2024.
