Multimodality, zero-emission delivery, exemplary logistics warehouse: Ikea sets the tone for tomorrow's logistics

Integrated into the port of Limay-Porcheville (78), the project for IKEA France's future customer distribution center illustrates the Swedish group's ambition for sustainable growth.
The 160,000 m² public site, owned by HAROPA-Ports de Paris, will enable IKEA to develop a customer distribution center with a floor area of around 72,000 m² to supply Paris city-center stores and deliver to e-commerce customers. Designed by A26, this logistics building will take advantage of an exceptional location (Seine/A13) to set an innovative example from an environmental point of view.

Strategically located to the west of the Île-de-France region, the IKEA France project site will supply customers in a vast area stretching from the Île-de-France to the western regions. IKEA is developing an omnichannel strategy, based on a balance between its physical and digital points of contact. The creation of this new distribution center reflects IKEA's ambition to offer fast, reliable and sustainable deliveries.

Thanks to this exceptional location, IKEA intends to develop sustainable, multimodal logistics. River delivery offers several advantages. It provides access to the center of Paris, free from urban congestion, and therefore offers reliable delivery times. It also offers the opportunity to deliver to customers with zero-emission solutions, thanks to a combination of electric vehicles and river transport on the model already tested since September 2020 in collaboration with HAROPA-Ports de Paris, from the Gennevilliers depot (92).

Driven by A26's experience, this warehouse also aims to be exemplary from an environmental point of view. Its ambition is to be certified BREEAM® "Very Good", thanks to a design that optimizes energy consumption, promotes the use of environmentally-friendly building materials and features over 28,000m² of photovoltaic panels on the roof. The project will also incorporate a major landscaping component to ensure respect for and development of the ecosystem in which it will be integrated, by revegetating the area with 30,000m² of green spaces and planting around a hundred trees.

I'm very proud to sign today the agreement with HAROPA-Ports de Paris for the creation of this warehouse in Limay. IKEA France is already committed to delivering 100% of its Paris customers with zero-emission solutions by the end of 2021, and throughout France by 2025. This warehouse will enable us to reconcile the long-term development of our business, particularly e-commerce, with this ambition for sustainable logistics.

Commissioning is scheduled for 2026.
