Douarnenez hospital: revitalizing the region's healthcare sector

To win the MOP tender for the restructuring/extension of Douarnenez Hospital, A26 was able to demonstrate the added value of the experience of its healthcare division. We understood the economic and health issues involved in maintaining this type of structure in the heart of the region, mastered the complex phasing of an occupied site, and ensured site supervision whatever the situation in France. At the end of 20 months of construction work, which began this autumn, the residents of Douarnenez will be able to have complete confidence in their hospital structure, which has been redesigned to provide a local service essential to their peace of mind.

The new hospital's contemporary architecture, with its emphasis on accessibility and patient care, is a far cry from the imposing concrete structure designed in the 1980s, and meets the challenges set by the French Ministry of Health for local hospital structures.

A redesigned emergency department, completed by a redesigned MPU (post emergency medicine), a cardiology department and a more spacious day hospital thanks to the space freed up by the restructuring of the interventional technical platform, and an extension directly linked to the first building that makes the consultation/day hospital/hospital sections more fluid, secure and sectorized.

For Vincent Floquet, A26 project manager for this project

The hospital's entire architectural and technical project is part of a complete overhaul of its image. Our client's overriding concern to make the hospital a dynamic part of the South Finistère region has been taken into account, both in the contemporary architecture featuring metal and large glass surfaces, and in the ultra-precise phasing of the project, which means that patients will experience no disruption in service, despite the major restructuring and extension work, and will see the positive changes for the future day after day!
